Professionals & Referrers
We welcome referrals from schools, colleges, GP practices, health and social care services, voluntary organisations and other professionals working with young people. COGS provides free, confidential counselling for young people aged 12–25 living in Faringdon and the surrounding areas.
Immediate Risk
If a young person is in immediate danger, please contact the appropriate emergency service. COGS is not an emergency or crisis service.
Young people may be referred to COGS for many reasons, including anxiety, low mood, difficulties at school or college, family changes, relationship issues, caring responsibilities, becoming a parent or feeling overwhelmed by life.
We accept referrals for young people aged 12–25 who would benefit from a safe, confidential space to talk with a trained counsellor.
Who We Support
Confidentiality
Counselling works best when young people feel able to speak openly. Information shared in counselling is kept confidential, except where there are concerns about the safety of the young person or someone else.
We explain confidentiality clearly to young people at the start of counselling and work in line with our safeguarding policies and procedures.
Next Steps
After receiving a referral, we will contact the young person to explain what COGS offers and, if they wish to proceed, arrange an initial appointment.
Counselling is voluntary and works best when the young person chooses to engage with the support themselves.
Working in Partnership
Schools & Colleges
We work alongside schools and colleges to support young people who may be struggling. If you would like to discuss referrals, counselling support or how COGS could work alongside your setting, please get in touch.
Community Organisations
We work with local organisations, youth services and community groups supporting young people. If you would like to find out more about COGS or explore ways of working together, we would be happy to hear from you.
Health & Social Care
We welcome referrals and enquiries from GPs, mental health services and social care professionals. We can work alongside other services to help young people access appropriate emotional support.
